Transmission
•
Assemble the crankcase (see Crankcase Assembly).
•
Press in the new oil seal [A] onto collar [B] so that the
surface of the oil seal is flush with the counterbore bottom
surface [C] of the crankcase.
○
Apply high-temperature grease to the oil seal lips.
Transmission Shaft Disassembly
•
Remove the transmission shafts (see Transmission Shaft
Removal).
•
Remove the c irclips, disassemble the transmission
shafts.
Special Tool - Outside Circlip Pliers: 57001-144
•
The 5th gear [A] on the output shaft has three steel balls
assembled into it for the positive neutral finder mecha-
nism. Remove the 5th gear.
○
Set the output shaft in a vertical position holding the 3rd
gear [B].
○
Spin the 5th gear quickly [C] and pull it off upward.
•
Remove the ball bearing [A] with collar [B] from the output
shaft.

•
Discard the bearing.
Transmission Shaft Assembly
•
Install the new ball bearing [A] and collar [B] on the output
shaft, using the bearing driver.
