Engine Removal/Installation
Engine Removal
Drain the engine oil (see Engine Bottom End/Transmis-
sion chapter).
Drain the coolant (see Cooling System chapter).
Remove:
Radiator Shrouds
Side Covers
Seat
Fuel Tank
Water Hoses
Radiators
Expansion Chamber
Spark Plug
Carburetor (with Cables and Hoses)
Clutch Cable Lower End
Drive Chain
Engine Sprocket
Shift Pedal
Brake Pedal
Disconnect the magneto output lead, and free the leads
from the clamp.
Place a jack [A] under the frame to lift the motorcycle off
the ground, and put blocks under the front and rear tires
to steady the motorcycle.
WARNING
The swingarm pivot shaft also serves as the en-
gine mounting bolt. Take precautions to insure the
frame is well supported, and that the motorcycle
will not fall over when the pivot shaft is removed.
Special Tool - Jack: 57001-1238
Remove the engine mounting bolts [B].
Pull out the swing arm pivot shaft [C].
Lift the engine out to the right.
