Exciter (Stator) Coil Peak Voltage Check
•
Disconnect the connector of the harness from the CDI
Unit.
•
To check the peak voltage, do the following procedures.
NOTE
○
Measure the voltage with each lead connected c or-
rectly. The correct value may not be obtained if
disconnected.
○
Maintain the correct value of compression pressure for
the cylinder (Be sure to measure the voltage with the
spark plug installed to the cylinder head).
○
Connect the peak voltage adapter [A] of the tester to the
terminals of the harness connector [B].
Special Tool - Peak Voltage Adapter: 57001-1415
Type: KEK-54-9-B
Hand Tester: 57001-1394
Connection:
Adapter Positive → Black/Red Lead
Adapter Negative → Black/White Lead
○
Crank the engine by kicking the pedal several times to
measure the peak voltage of the exciter (stator) coil.
Peak Voltage D C 100 V or above
If the voltage is less than the specified, check the exciter
(stator) coil.
Engine Stop Function Check
•
Disconnect the engine stop button (switch) leads [A].
•
Start the engine.
•
Ground the s top button (switch) lead [B] of the main har-
ness side while the engine is running.
If the engine does not stop, the CDI Unit is defective.
Engine Stop Button Electric Current Check (KX65A6F
∼)
•
Disconnect the engine stop button (switch) lead connec-
tor.
•
Start the engine.
•
Ground the stop button (switch) black/yellow lead of the
magneto lead while the engine is running.
If the engine does not stop, replace the CDI Unit.
