Wheels (Rims)
Insert a new cotter pin [A].
NOTE
When inserting the cotter pin, if the slots in the nut do
not align with the cotter pin hole in the axle, tighten the
nut clockwise [B] up to next alignment.
It should be within 30 degree.
Loosen once and tighten again when the slot goes past
the nearest hole.
Bend the cotter pin [A] over the nut [B].
Check the rear brake for good braking power and no
brake drag.
WARNING
Do not attempt to drive the motorcycle until a full
brake pedal is obtained by pumping the brake pedal
until the pads are against the disc. The brake will
not function on the first application of the pedal if
this is not done.
Wheels Inspection
Place the jack under the frame so that the front/rear wheel
is raised off the ground.
Special Tool - Jack: 57001-1238
Spin the wheel lightly, and check for roughness or binding.
If roughness or binding is found, replace the hub bearings.
Visually inspect the front and rear axles for damage.
If axle is damaged or bent, replace it.
Spoke Inspection
Check that all the spokes are tightened evenly.
If spoke tightness is uneven or loose, tighten the spoke
nipples evenly.
Torque - Spoke Nipples: 1.5 N·m (0.15 kgf·m, 13 in·lb)
Check the rim runout.
WARNING
If any spoke breaks, it should be replaced immedi-
ately. A missing spoke places an additional load on
the other spokes, which will eventually cause other
spokes to break.
