SME v1.6 Enterprise Local Server Installation Guide Installation for Local Servers Running Novell NetWare 145
Windows Workstations
Make sure you have the latest service packs and hot fixes for
your operating system.
For NetWare installations, make sure you have the latest client
software and that all workstations have the same version of the
client software.
Configure the local client software for File Caching to be turned
off.
Make sure that the network interface cards are configured
properly for duplex settings and the Power Saver is turned off.
Check with the manufacturer of both the network card and the
switch to know the best settings for your implementation.
Check with hardware manufacturers of the main system and
all components installed for latest patches and updates.
Make sure the video display is set to 800x600 pixels, with the
color setting at High Color (16 bit).
Make sure the screen saver is set to wait for at least 30 minutes.
Disable power saving features for all components.
For QuickTime to work properly, set the video settings to Safe
Mode. To do this, open QuickTime Settings from your Control
Panel, select Video Settings from the list box, and select Safe
Mode.
If you experience graphic problems, set your video hardware
acceleration to None.
UNC share mappings are not supported.
Set your workstations to log on and restore network
connections instead of performing a quick log on.
Optimize hard disks by defragging regularly and cleaning up
temporary files.
Restrictive anti-virus settings may impact SuccessMaker
Enterprise performance.
Network Infrastructure
If hubs are being used in a 10 MB network, make sure that no
more than 15 workstations per collision domain are configured.
Pay careful attention to manufacturers' specifications for
cascaded hubs and switches.
Do not lock switch ports to a speed in excess of what the
network’s wiring is certified to support.
