1) If the bearing hauging is stamped “–03”.
..... j = 1 – 0.03 = 0.97
2) If the crankcase is stamped “45”
..... c = 110 + 0.45 = 110.45
3) If the pinion gear is stamped “–02”
..... k = 14.5 – 0.02 = 14.48
4) If the middle drive shaft is stamped “03”
..... l = 80.5 + 0.03 = 80.53
5) Therefore, shim thickness Î is,
Î = 0.97 + 110.45 – 13.00 – 0.95 – 14.48
– 80.53 – 0.25 = 2.21 mm
6) Shim sizes are supplied in following
thickness:
Because shims can only be selected in
0.10 mm increments, round off hundredths
digit and select appropriate shim(s).
If the example above, the calculated shim
thickness 2.21 mm. The chart instructs you,
however, to round off the 1 to 0, then shim
thickness is 2.20 mm.
