3.2 LEAN DISPLAY
NOTE: The pilot should follow the engine manufacturer’s recommended leaning procedures as described in
the Pilot’s Operating Handbook (POH) and FAA Approved Airplane Flight Manual (AFM).
The Lean Display is accessed by pressing the ENGINE Softkey followed by the LEAN Softkey and provides
information for assistance during engine leaning.
Manifold Gauge, Tachometer and digital Fuel Flow Indication remain on the Lean Display. Exhaust Gas
Temperature (EGT) and Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) are displayed graphically with numeric readouts for
the selected cylinder.
Bars for cylinders whose EGT and CHT are within normal range are shown in white. On the CHT bar graph,
caution and warning conditions for each cylinder are indicated by color change of the bar to yellow or red,
respectively. By default, the cylinder with the hottest EGT and CHT is selected (bar indicated in light blue) when
the LEAN Softkey is pressed. The readouts below the bar graphs correspond to the selected cylinder.
Accessing the EIS Lean Display:
1) Press the ENGINE Softkey.
2) Press the LEAN Softkey.
3) To return to the default Engine Display, press the ENGINE or BACK Softkey.
From the Lean Display, the CYL SLCT and ASSIST Softkeys can be utilized to obtain information about specific
cylinders on both the EGT and CHT graphs. Pressing the CYL SLCT Softkey cycles through the cylinders; the
selected cylinder is displayed in light blue. The CYL SLCT Softkey is disabled during warning or caution
conditions or when the ASSIST Softkey is pressed.
Monitoring the desired cylinder’s EGT and CHT:
From the Lean Display, press the CYL SLCT Softkey to cycle through each cylinder and view its EGT and CHT.
The ASSIST Softkey may be used to assist in the leaning process by identifying the peak of the first cylinder
whose temperature falls. The peaked cylinder is selected and a light blue bar appears above the cylinder’s bar to
indicate EGT peak. A readout showing the temperature deviation from peak (PEAK) is displayed above the EGT
bar graph. If the temperature of the peaked cylinder exceeds the peak value, the peak value is not updated.
Monitoring of the cylinder continues until the ASSIST Softkey is pressed again which disables lean assist and
removes the peak line from the bar graph and the temperature deviation from peak (PEAK). The system then
returns to seeking the hottest cylinder.
Selecting the Engine Lean Assist function:
From the Lean Display, press the ASSIST Softkey to identify the EGT peak.
