Paper Element Service (Standard and Commercial
Mower Types)
Every 100 hours of operation (more often under
extremely dusty or dirty conditions), replace the paper
element. See Figures 4-5 or 4-6, and follow these steps:
1. Unhook the latches or loosen the cover retaining
knob and remove the cover.
2. Remove the wing nut, element cover, and air
cleaner element.
3. Remove the precleaner (if so equipped) from the
paper element. Service the precleaner as
described in “Precleaner Service”.
4. Do not wash the paper element or use
pressurized air, as this will damage the element.
Replace a dirty, bent, or damaged element with a
genuine Kohler element. Handle new elements
carefully; do not use if the sealing surfaces are
bent or damaged.
5. Check the rubber sleeve seal for any damage or
deterioration. Replace as necessary.
6. Reinstall the paper element, precleaner, element
cover, and wing nut.
7. Reinstall the air cleaner cover and secure with the
two latches or the retaining knob.
