d. Tighten the rod end locknuts of both tie-
rods.
TIP
Adjust the tie-rod ends so that “A” and “B” are
equal.

CHECKING THE FRONT SHOCK
ABSORBER ASSEMBLIES
The following procedure applies to both of the
front shock absorber assemblies.
1. Place the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Check:
Front shock absorber assembly
Front shock absorber rod
•Spring
Gas cylinder (for 4D3H, 4D3M)
Refer to “CHECKING THE FRONT
SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLIES” on
page 4-49.
3. Check:
Operation
Pump the front shock absorber assembly
up and down several times.
Unsmooth operation Replace front
shock absorber assembly.
Refer to “FRONT ARMS AND FRONT
SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLIES” on
page 4-47.

ABSORBER ASSEMBLIES (for 4D3D)

EWA14920
Always adjust the spring preload for both
front shock absorber assemblies to the
same setting. Uneven adjustment can
cause poor handling and loss of stability.
1. Adjust:
Spring preload
ECA4D3F010
Never attempt to turn the adjuster beyond
the maximum or minimum setting.

a. Turn the adjuster “1” in direction “a” or “b”
with the ring nut wrench “2”.
Locknut (tie-rod end)
15 Nm (1.5 m·kg, 11 ft·lb)
Direction “a”
Spring preload is increased (suspension
is harder).
Direction “b”
Spring preload is decreased (suspension
is softer).
