4.2.3.1 MacCreadyWindow
TheMacCreadyWindowisfoundinthelowerleftcornerofthemovingmapscreenandisusedtoview
andedittheMacCreadysetting.Pleaserefertoyourfavoritecrosscountrysoaringtextbookfor
informationonsettingthisnumber.Briefly‐Itisusedtoselectthespeedtoflybetweenthermals.It
isoftensettothebestestimateoftheaverageclimbrateinthenextthermal.Inthelastthermalof
thedayitissettotheachievedclimbrateinthattherma
ToedittheMacCreadysettingpresstheFocusbuttontoactivatetheNIAandusetheLeftbutton
orRightbuttontohighlighttheMacCreadyWindow .ThenusetheUp andDown
buttonstoselectthedesiredsetting.
MacCreadySetWindow
TheUp andDownbuttonsincrementanddecrementtheMacCreadysettingin0.5knot(or0.2
m/s)increments.
TheZoomIn(+)andZoomOut()buttonsincrementanddecrementtheMacCreadysettingin1knot
(or0.6m/s)increments.
TohidetheMacCreadySetWindowpresstheSelect ,FocusorMenubutton,orwaitanditwill
hideautomaticallyinabout30seconds.
4.2.3.2 GlideWindWindow
TheGlideWindWindowisfoundinthelowerleftcornerofthemovingmapscreen,totheright
oftheMacCreadyWindow.TheGlideWindWindowisusedtovieworeditthewindspeedand
directionthatareusedbythesoftwareforfinalglidecalculations.We’ll
callthewindusedforfinal
glidecalculationstheGlideWind.TheClearNavcalculateswindspeedanddirectionautomatically
usingGPSdataandmeasuringwinddriftwhilecircling.TheClearNavcanalsoreceivewinddatafrom
anexternaldevicesuchasaCambridge302,etc.ThewinddataprovidedbytheCambridge302is
probablymoreaccuratebecauseitiscalculatedusingairspeeddatainadditiontotheGPSdatawhich
makesitpossibletomeasurewindwhilecruising.Bydefault,theClearNavautomaticallyputsthe
MeasuredWindintotheGlideWindWindow.Thatmethodworkswellinmany
soaringlocationsand
windconditions,buttherearetimeswhenyoumaynotwanttousethemostrecentmeasuredwind
fortheGlideWind.Anexampleofthatwouldbewhenyouareabouttoheadintoaverydifferent
airmasssuchaswhenglidingdownintoa
valleyordownontoaridge.Inthatcaseitiseasyto
manuallyentertheGlideWind.
