FLARMisacollisionalertsystemthatispopularinmanycountriesoutsidetheUSA.Ithasabuiltin
GPS,pressuresensorandradiotransmitterandreceiver.Itbroadcastsitspositionandaltitudesothat
otherFLARMunitsintheareawillbealertedtoitspresence.Itgivesalertsifacollisionispredicted
usingdatareceivedfromotherFLARMdevicesinthearea.
TheClearNavcandisplayFLARMdataonthemovingmapdisplay.
TheFLARMunitcanbeconnectedtoeitheroftheRS232serialportconnectorsontheNexusWiring
Board.TheFLARMtoNexusWiringBoardCablecanbeusedfortheconnection.Itisshownbelow.
2.2 Software
TheClearNavrunsClearNavigatorsoftwarethatisspecificallydesignedtoworkwiththeClearNav’s
uniqueremotecontrolandotherhardware.NoothersoaringsoftwarewillworkontheClearNav
system.
TheClearNavigatorsoftwareisdesignedtobeeasytouseinflightandintuitive.Yetitisverypowerful
softwarewith
manyinnovativefeaturessuchastheglideamoebaeandthewayithandlesturnarea
tasks.
2.3 DataFiles
TheClearNavusesseveraltypesofdatafilesfordisplayingmapinformation,terrainelevation,airports
andotherwaypoints,SpecialUseAirspace,etc.Fortunately,theClearNavincludesalargeamountof
memorysothatitcanholdmapandterraindataformuchoftheworldatonce.Itisimportantto
makesurethattherightdatafilesareinstalledintheClearNavsothatyouwillhavethebestdata
availableforyourarea.
