Beespeciallycarefulwheninspectingorservicing
yourvehicle.Herearesomegeneralprecautionsfor
yoursafety:
Donotworkonahotengine.Theengine
coolingfanmaycomeonunexpectedly.Always
turntheengineoffandletitcool.
WARNING
Thecoolingfanisautomaticandmay
comeonatanytime.Alwaysdisconnect
thenegativeterminalofthebattery
beforeworkingnearthefan.
Ifyoumustworkwiththeenginerunning,
avoidwearinglooseclothingorjewelrythat
couldgetcaughtinmovingparts.Take
appropriateprecautionswithlonghair.
Donotworkonavehicleinanenclosedspace
withtheenginerunning,unlessyouaresure
youhaveenoughventilation.
Nevergetunderavehiclewhileitissupported
byajackonly.Ifyoumustworkundera
vehicle,usesafetystands.
Keepalllitcigarettesandothersmoking
materialsawayfromthebatteryandall
fuel-relatedparts.
Ifyoudisconnectthebattery,theenginemust
“relearnitsidleconditionsbeforeyourvehiclewill
driveproperly.Tofindouthowtheenginedoes
this,seeBatteryinthischapter.
Workingwiththeengineoff:
1. Settheparkingbrakefullyandmakesurethat
thegearshiftissecurelylatchedinP(Park).
2. Removethekeyfromtheignitionafteryou
turntheengineoff.
