SporTrak Color GPS Mapping Receiver 71
Appendix
Note: For most people, the simplest, and most effective method of rotating the SporTrak
Color, is to use one finger and push the receiver around in a clockwise manner.
5. Continue rotating the SporTrak Color until it beeps. (This will be slightly more
than one complete rotation.)
If the calibration is good, the SporTrak Color will display a message that the
calibration is complete and acceptable. However, if the SporTrak Color deter-
mines that the calibration may be flawed it will prompt you to perform the
calibration again. This is most likely caused by the SporTrak Color being too close
to metallic objects while you were performing the calibration. You need to move
the SporTrak Color to a new location before performing the calibration again.
EXTENDED CALIBRATION
Sometimes additional calibration is required to the SporTrak Color. A second type of
calibration may be required when something has caused the sensors to be so far off
calibration that the basic calibration routine is not sufficient. This can occur if the
SporTrak Color has been vibrated or dropped. The most common indication that
extended calibration needs to be performed is during the basic calibration routine you
are unable to level the bubble.
To enter extended calibration: (These are the same as the first three steps in performing
the basic calibration.)
1. Remove the SporTrak Color from any cradle it may be in and lay it down face up
on any flat, nonmetal surface. Also you should not be moving (i.e., in a car or
boat in motion) while calibrating the compass. This will affect the calibration
causing errors in the compass output.
2. Turn the SporTrak Color on normally and after any of the navigation screens are
displayed, press the MENU button. Using the Up/Down arrows, highlight
“Setup” and press ENTER.
3. Using the Up/Down arrows, highlight “Compass Calibrate” and press
ENTER.
The screen with the bubble level is displayed. Press ZOOM IN to enter
extended calibration.
4. You are presented with two choices: Factory Defaults or Extended Calibration. It
is recommended that you select the factory defaults. This is the simplest and safest
method in getting your compass calibrated. You should attempt to manually
calibrate only after trying the factory defaults and the compass still does not
function satisfactorily.
Factory Defaults
If you selected the factory defaults, calibration information that has been stored in
memory will be applied to your receiver. You will then return to the basic
calibration function, beginning at the leveling phase (bubble screen).
