MAINTENANCE
Air Filter Service
1. Remove the seat, release the
air box cover clips, and
remove the air box cover.
2. Loosen the clamp and remove
the filter.
3. Remove the fabric type
pre-filter (1) from the main
filter (2). Wash the pre-filter
in soapy water, t hen rinse and
let dry.
4. Reinstall the pre-filter over the
main filter. (Replace the main
filter if needed.)
5. Reinstall t he filter into the air box and tighten the clamp. Do not
over tighten the clamp, as filter damage could occur.
6. Reinstall the air box cover and the seat.
Breather Filter/Hose
1. To access the breather filter (3), remove the left side panel as
outlined on page 82. The breather filter is on the hose that runs
between the engine and air box.
2. Remove the clamps and pull the filter out of the hoses.
NOTE: It’s not necessary to r emove the l ower hose from the engine.
3. Inspect the filter for debris. Blow gently through the filter in the
direction of the arrow to check for clogging. Replace if needed.
4. Check the hoses for cracks, deterioration, abrasion, or leaks.
Replace as needed.
5. Reinstall the filter and secure the clamps.
NOTE: The filter is effective wit h the arrow pointing in either
direction.
CAUTION
Operation of your vehicle without a breather filter can cause
engine damage. Always r einstall the breather filter after removing
for service.
