5. Install the dipstick, making sure to align
the notch in the dipstick handle with the
projection on the drive chain housing.
6. Install the right side cover.
TIP
Continue with steps 7 and 8 for models with
reverse only.
7. Release the parking brake.
8. Drive the snowmobile for several minutes
at more than 20 km/h (12 mi/h), and then
repeat steps 17 to check the oil level
again.
To adjust the chain tension
1. Remove the right side cover. (See page
49 for removal procedures.)
2. Loosen the locknut.
3. Turn the chain tension adjusting bolt
clockwise until it is finger tight, and then
loosen it 1/4 turn.
4. While holding the chain tension adjusting
bolt with a wrench, tighten the locknut to
the specified torque.
5. Install the right side cover.

Brake and parking brake
WARNING

A soft, spongy feeling in the brake lever
indicates a failure in the brake system.
Do not operate the snowmobile if you
find any problems in the brake system.
You could lose braking ability, which
could lead to an accident. Ask a Yamaha
dealer to inspect and repair the brake
system.
NOTICE

Make sure that the brake lever end does
not project out over the handlebar end.
This will help prevent brake lever damage
when the snowmobile is placed on its side
for service.
Recommended drive chain oil:
SAE 75W or 80W API GL-3 Gear oil
