Controls
Radar sensor
Adaptive cruise control consists of the cruise
control system and coordinated spacing sys-
tem.
The distance to the vehicle ahead is meas-
ured by a radar sensor. The speed is regulat-
ed by acceleration and braking. It is normal
for the brakes to emit a low sound when they
are being used by cruise control.
The cruise control objective is to follow the
vehicle ahead but in the same lane and at a
set distance. If the radar sensor has not de-
tected a vehicle ahead then the only objec-
WARNING
Adaptive cruise control cannot cover all
driving situations and traffic, weather and
road conditions.
The Function section on page 123 and after
informs about limitations that the driver
must be aware of before using the adaptive
cruise control.
When driving you are responsible for main-
taining the correct distance and speed,
even when adaptive cruise control is used.
You must always pay attention to the traffic
conditions and intervene when adaptive
cruise control is not maintaining a suitable
speed or suitable distance.

WARNING
Adaptive cruise control is not a collision
avoidance system. The driver must inter-
vene if the system does not detect a vehicle
in front.
Adaptive cruise control does not brake for
slow or stationary vehicles.
Do not use the adaptive cruise control, for
example, in city traffic, in dense traffic, at
junctions, on slippery surfaces, with a lot of
water or slush on the road, in heavy rain/
snow, in poor visibility, on winding roads or
on slip roads.
WARNING
The brake pedal moves when the cruise
control brakes. Do not rest your foot under
the brake pedal as it could become
trapped.
