Running the Preinstallation Script 9
Running the Preinstallation Script
The Pre41Install upgrade script is a script that you run prior to upgrading your
COMMAND/POST system from 3.2.3 to 4.1. Some of the functions in this script back up your
COMMAND/POST 3.2.3 master and agc databases and your system and configuration
directories.
The preinstallation script backs up your database and the current configuration information by
backing up the following directories to tape or to a file on a file system:
/etc
/usr/nc
/usr/sybase
/home/u/NetCmmnd
/var/spool/NetCmmnd
The preinstallation script also generates files that will be used during postinstallation
processing to restore your COMMAND/POST 3.2.3 database under COMMAND/POST 4.1.
Before You Begin
While running this script, a log file named Pre41Install.log is created and stored in the
/tmp directory.
Note: A copy of the Pre41Install.log file should be saved for later reference.
BMC Software strongly recommends that you have a current backup of your master and agc
databases. This can be done manually or through the preinstallation script. The preinstallation
script provides for backing up the master and agc databases to either the agcdump2 tape device
or a disk device. However, Sybase 4.9.2 does not support backing up of multiple databases to
the same device. We suggest that you back up the COMMAND/POST databases to separate
disk files.
Before you begin running the Pre41Install script, you must perform a full backup of
your system.
You must be logged on to the rmdhost system as root to run the preinstallation script;
the preinstallation script only runs on the rmdhost workstation.
