Throttle System
WARNING
Failure to check or maintain proper operation of t he throttle
system can result in an accident and lead to serious injury or
death if the t hrottle pedal sticks during operation.
Never s tart or operate t his vehicle if it has a sticking or improperly
operating throttle pedal.
Immediately contact your dealer f or service if throttle problems
arise.
Always check the pedal for free movement and return before
starting the engine and occasionally during operation.
Throttle Freeplay
If the throttle pedal (1) has excessive play
due to cable stretch or misadjustment, it
will cause a delay in throttle response,
especially at low engine speed. The throttle
may also not open fully. If the throttle
pedal has no freeplay, the t hrottle may be
hard to control, and the idle speed may be
erratic.
Check the throttle pedal freeplay at the
intervals outlined in the Periodic
Maintenance Chart beginning on page 53.
Adjust the freeplay if necessary.
Throttle Freeplay Inspection
1. Engage the park brake (2). S hift the transmission to neutral.
2. Apply the brakes. Start the engine. Allow i t to warm up
thoroughly.
3. Measure the distance the throttle pedal moves before the engine
begins to pick up speed. Freeplay should be 1/16 to 1/8 inches
(1.6-3.2 mm).
