Introduction
Follow these steps to ensure parts are properly lubri-
cated:
• Maintain oil level, check it regularly
• Change oil regularly
• Use the correct grade and type of oil
• Buy oil from a reputable dealer
All Transmissions
Oil Change: Drain and replace according to Table 1,
“Recommended Maintenance Intervals,” Page 150 and
the Transmission Service Manual. Use the recommended
types of oil as specified in the Operation and Service Man-
ual (included with vehicle). Select the appropriate lubri-
cant for the expected ambient (outside air) temperatures.
Transmission Lubricants
CAUTION: When adding oil, types and brands
of oil should not be intermixed because of
possible incompatibility, which could
decrease the effectiveness of the lubrication
or cause component failure.
Manual Transmissions
Manual transmissions are designed so that the internal
parts operate in a bath of oil circulated by the motion of
gears and shafts.
Service Intervals
For recommended types and brands of all lubricants, see
the transmission manufacturer's Service Manual and
Table 1, “Recommended Maintenance Intervals,” Page
150.
