CHECKING THE STEERING STEM
1. Check:
• Steering stem “1”
Bends → Replace.

Do not attempt to straighten a bent stem;
this may dangerously weaken the stem.
2. Check:
• Oil seals “1”
• Steering stem bushings “2”
Wear/damage → Replace.
3. Check:
• O-rings “1”
• Bushings “2”
Wear/damage → Replace.

INSTALLING THE STEERING STEM
1. Install:
• Steering stem
TIP
Pass the throttle cable through the cable guide.
Refer to “CABLE ROUTING” on page 2-29.

INSTALLING THE LOCK WASHER
1. Install:
• Lock washer “1”
• Steering stem bushing bolts
2. Bend the lock washer tabs along a flat side
of the bolts.
