Positive crankcase ventilation valve
To remove the valve cover and PCV valve:
NOTE: The PCV valve is located inside the valve cover.
The function and test procedures for the PCV
valve is covered in Chapter 2: Basic Troubleshoot
-
ing.
1. Disconnect and ground the spark plug wire.
2. Squeeze the spring clamp that secures the breather
hose to the valve cover nipple and slide it back. Then
remove the breather hose from the valve cover nip
-
ple. See Figure 5.7.
3. Remove the five screws that hold the valve cover to
the cylinder head using a 10mm wrench.
See Figure 5.8.
NOTE: The PCV valve is not serviceable. If it is faulty, the
valve cover must be replaced.
4. Reassemble the PCV and valve cover by following
the above steps in reverse order.
NOTE: Tighten the cover bolts to a torque of 62 - 79.7 in-
lbs. (7-9 Nm).
5. Inspect the PCV tubing for cracks, brittleness or
signs of leaking. Replace the PCV tube if any are
found.
6. Test run the engine before returning to service.
