9 HOW TO UPDATE FIRMWARE
This section describes how to update the firmware of the TH-D72A/E transceiver itself and of the
TNC.
In order to update the equipment, each of the following is required:
Equipment to be updated (TH-D72A/E)
Computer
Communication cable (USB Cable that comes with TH-D72A/E)
Firmware update program
Kenwood provides the firmware update program for use on Windows operating systems. The
specifications for your computer in order to use this software are as shown in Table 9-1.

Note:
Upon connecting the transceiver to a PC using a USB cable, ensure that the connection has securely been in place. The
firmware updating program may not behave properly if connecting through a USB hub.
Download and install the virtual COM port driver to make a USB connection possible for command communications via a USB
connector.

This firmware updating program cannot read and write user data such as menu items and memory channel frequencies. If
you do not wish to lose user data, save the data using the MCP-4A Memory Control Program prior to updating the firmware
and writing the data back after updating the firmware.
