Basic Mechanics
A special harness connects the navigation system to your vehicles electrical
system circuits. Connection locations vary depending on vehicle design. In
brief, however, this is how the navigation system is connected:
Ignition ON provides power to wake up the navigation system.
Battery circuit powers the navigation systems computer when the ignition
is OFF. This minimal source of power is needed to store the vehicles last
location/position, similar to the way the time on your vehicles clock is
stored while the car is OFF.
Ground connection completes electrical circuits.
Vehicle speed sensor circuit provides information on how fast the vehicle is
traveling.
