Vehicle Immersion
CAUTION
If your vehicle becomes immersed, major engine damage can
result if the vehicle i s not thoroughly inspected. Take the vehicle
to y our dealer before s tarting the engine.
If it’s impossible t o take your RANGER to a dealer before starting it,
follow the steps outlined below.
1. Move the vehicle to dry land, or at the very least, to a water level
below the floor.
2. Disconnect the fuel pump wires.
3. Remove the spark plug.
4. Place a clean container under the engine and loosen the carburetor
drain screw (1) t wo turns.

5. Turn the engine over several times with electric start. Inspect the
drained fuel for water or s ediment.
6. Dry the spark plug and reinstall, or install a new plug.
7. Tighten the carb uretor d rain screw.
8. Reconnect the fuel pump wires.
9. Attempt to start the engine. If necessary, repeat the drying
procedure.
10. Take the vehicle to your dealer for service as soon as possible
whether you succeed in starting it o r not.
NOTE: If water has been ingested into the PVT f ollow the procedure
on page 75 for d rying.
