MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION
Polaris Variable Transmission (PVT) System
WARNING
Failure to comply with the instructions in this warning can result in
severe injury or death.
Do not modify any component of the PVT system. Doing so may
reduce its s trength s o that a failure may o ccur at a high speed.
The PVT system has been precision balanced. Any modification
will cause the system to be out of balance, creating v ibration and
additional loads on components.
The PVT system rotates at high speeds, creating large amount s
of force on clutch components. Extensive engineering and
testing has been conducted to ensure the safety of this product.
However , as the owner, you hav e the following responsibilities to
make sure this system remains safe:
Always follow all recommended m aintenance procedures. See
your dealer as outlined in the owner’s manual.
This PVT system is intended for use on Polaris products only. Do
not ins tall it i n any other product.
Always make sure the PVT hous ing is securely in place during
operation.
PVT Drying
There m ay be s ome instances when water i s accidently i ngested into
the PVT system. Use the following instructions to dry it out before
operating.
1. Shift the transmission into neutral and apply full throttle for no
longer than 10 seconds and repeat as necessary. This will expel the
moisture and air dry the belt and clutches.
2. Allow t he engine RPM to settle to idle speed, then shift the
transmission to the lowest available range.
3. Test for belt slippage. If t he belt slips, repeat the process.
4. Take the vehicle to your dealer for service as soon as possible.
