MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION
Brakes
The front and rear brakes are hydraulic disc type brakes and are
activated by the brake pedal. See page 33.
Brake Fluid
Routine inspections are recommended to keep the brake system in
good operating condition. Inspect the level of the brake fluid before
each operation.
Change the brake fluid at the intervals outlined in the Periodic
Maintenance Chart beginning on page 54. The brake fluid should also
be changed if it becomes contaminated, if the fluid level is below the
minimum, or if the type and brand of the fluid in the reservoir are
unknown.
1. Position the vehicle on a level
surface.
2. View the brake fluid level at the
reservoir (1) under t he hood. The
level should be between the upper
(MAX) and lower (MIN) level
lines.
3. If the fluid level is lower than the
lower level line, ad d brake fluid to
the upper (MAX) line.
4. Apply the brake forcefully for a
few seconds and check for fluid
leakage around the fittings.
WARNING
After opening a bottle of brake fluid, alway s discard any unus ed
portion. Never store or use a partial bottle. Brake fluid is
hygroscopic, meaning it rapidly absorbs moisture from the air.
The m oisture causes the boiling temperature of the brake fluid to
drop, which can lead to early brake fade and the possibility o f
accident or severe injury.
