Throttle System
WARNING
Failure to check or m aintain proper operation of the throttle
system can result in an accident and lead to serious injury or
death if the throttle pedal sticks dur ing operation.
Never s tart or operate this vehicle if it has a sticking or improperly
operating throttle pedal.
Immediately contact y our dealer f or service if throttle problems
arise.
Always check the pedal for free movement and return before
starting the engine and occasionally during operation.
Throttle Freeplay
If the throttle pedal (1) has excessive play
due to cable stretch or misadjustment, it
will cause a delay in throttle response,
especially at low engine speed. The throttle
may also not open fully. If the throttle
pedal has no freeplay, the t hrottle may be
hard to control, and the idle speed may be
erratic.
Check the throttle pedal freeplay at the
intervals outlined in the Periodic
Maintenance Chart beginning on page 54.
Adjust the freeplay if necessary.
Throttle Freeplay Inspection
1. Apply the parking brake (2) and shift the transmission to neutral.
2. Start the engine and warm it up thoroughly.
3. Measure the distance the throttle pedal moves before the engine
begins to pick up speed. Freeplay should be 1/16 t o 1/8 inches.
Throttle Freeplay Adjustment
1. Slide the boots (1) off the inline cable adjuster sleeve (2). Loosen
the adjuster locknut (3).
2. Turn the adjuster until 1/16 to 1/8 i nch freeplay is achieved.
NOTE: While adjus ting, flip the throttle lever back and forth.
3. Tighten the locknut and slide the boots over the cable adjuster until
they touch at the midpoint of adjuster.
