Q:HowdoIknowthattheIdlerightruntimeisprogrammedcorrectly?
A:Testthevehiclebyallowingittorunforaday.Afterthefirstcoupleofhours,thetime
betweenvehiclestartsshouldbefairlyconstant.Ifitisdecreasingsteadily,thentheruntime
shouldbeincreased.Ifitisincreasingsteadily,thentheruntimecanbedecreased.
Q:IhavetheIdlerightsettothemaximumruntime,butthetimebetweenstartsistooshortor
keepsdecreasing.WhatshouldIdo?
A:Theloadistoohigh.Thesearesomepossibleremedies:
• Decreasetheload
byturningoffallnon‐essentialaccessories.
• Ifthetimebetweenstartsisinitiallyacceptablebutbecomesshorteraftereach
start,evenwiththemaximumruntimeset,thenthealternatorisnotcharging
thebatteryproperly.Anewalternatorand/orbeltmaybeneeded,andfor
somevehicles,itmaybedesirabletoinstallahigh‐idlemodule.
• Ifthetimebetweenstartsisalwaystooshort,evenwithagoodbatteryand
chargingsystem,andthevehiclehasaveryhigh‐currentlightbar,itmaybe
necessarytoreplacethelightbarwithalower‐currentmodel.
