pg. 40 Starting the engine, Turbo caution
To start the engine:
1 Enter the car and fasten seat belt.
2 Apply the parking brake, if not already set.
3 Place the gear selector lever in neutral/park (position N or P on cars with automatic
transmission).
4 Without touching the accelerator pedal turn the ignition key to starting position. Release the key
as soon as the engine starts.
If the engine does not start at once, depress the throttle pedal half way and keep it there until the
engine starts.
Avoid repeated short attempts to start (fuel is injected every time the starter is engaged when engine is
cold). Allow the starter to operate for a longer time (but not more than 15 - 20 seconds).
Do not race a cold engine immediately after starting. Oil flow may not reach some lubricating
points fast enough to prevent engine damage.
WARNING!
Always open the garage doors fully before starting the engine inside a garage to ensure adequate
ventilation. The exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, which is invisible and odorless but very
