Drive Chain Tension
Check drive chain tension at the intervals outlined in the Periodic
Maintenance Table beginning on page 88. Check again before each long
trip.
CAUTION! Hot exhaust system parts can cause burns. Allow adequate time for
the exhaust system to cool. Never perform this procedure with the engine
running.
1. Remove the side panels.
2. Rotate the driven clutch
counter-clockwise to move all
chain slack to the tensioner
side.
3. Lock the parking brake.
4. Loosen the adjuster bolt jam
nut.
5. Finger-tighten the adjuster
bolt until it can no longer be
adjusted by hand, then back
off 1/4 turn.
6. Tighten the jam nut while holding the adjuster bolt.
Torque: 21 ft-lbs (28 Nm)
7. Reinstall the side panels.
