Nissan 2009 Automobile User Manual

CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT)
The CVT does not produce a gear change sensation
like traditional automatic transmissions.
The transmission in your vehicle requires a special
fluid available only at your NISSAN dealer. No other
fluid will meet the exact requirements of the CVT.
OVERDRIVE (O/D) OFF SWITCH (if so equipped)
Each time your vehicle is started, the transmission is
automatically “reset” to Overdrive on.
To turn Overdrive mode off, push the O/D OFF
switch
. The O/D OFF light in the instrument
panel will illuminate.
Use the Overdrive off mode when you need im-
proved engine braking.
MANUAL SHIFT MODE (if so equipped)
The manual shift mode can be activated
while the shift selector is in the D (Drive)
position by pressing a paddle shifter. How-
ever, the transmission will automatically re-
turn to the D (Drive) position after approxi-
mately 15 seconds. To manually return to the
D (Drive) position, pull and hold the paddle
shifter for 1.5 seconds.
When the shift selector is shifted from D
(Drive) to the manual shift gate, the transmission enters the manual shift mode.
In the manual shift mode, shift range is displayed on the position indicator in the meter.
When shifting up, move the shift selector to the + (up) side or move the shift paddle on
the steering wheel to the + (up) side
. The transmission shifts to a higher range.
When shifting down, move the shift selector to the - (down) side or move the shift
paddle on the steering wheel to the - (down) side
. The transmission shifts to a
lower range.
In manual shift mode, the transmission automatically shifts down to M1 (first) before the
vehicle comes to a stop. When accelerating again, it is necessary to shift to the desired
range.
Whencanceling the manual shiftmode, return the shiftselector to the D(Drive) position.
The transmission returns to the normal driving mode.
