Incomdete removalof body soildueto constant use of insufficient
deterg&t. Checkhem of T-~hirtor pillowcase. If they are whiteand
centerisyellow,it containsbody oil. Restorewhitenessfollowing
procedureson “Grayed Clothes;’page 21.
Chlorinebleachmay yellowsomefabricswith resin finishes.Use
oxygenbleach (suchas Chlorox2 brand). Refer to Garment
Manufacturers’ Care Instructions.Restorecolor usingcolor remover
(suchas Rit or Tintexbrands), followpackagedirections.
Iron or manganesein water may causeoverallyellowingor yellow
spots.

Use extra detergentplusa non-precipitatingwater softener dis-
solvedin water beforeadding clothes.Do not use a chlorinebleach.
2. Havea specialfilteror chemicalfeederinstalledin your home to
removeiron and manganesefrom water.
3. Run hot water for a fewminutesto cleaniron residuebuild-upin
lines;drain water heateroccasionally.
4. Toremove spots: spread stainedportion overpan of boilingwater
and squeezelemonjuicethrough stain. To remove overallYeliowy
usea commerciallyavailablerust scaleremover,followingpackage
instructions. If porcelaindamagecan occur,do not use in the
washer;use a plasticcontainer.
Improper use of fabric softener.Neverpour fabric softenerdirectlyon
clothes;alwaysdilutebefore addingto rinsewater. Dilutesoftener
before fillingyour Fabric SoftenerDispenser.(Seepage6) Also, do
not lift lid duringspin. Thismay causeimproper dispensing,resulting
in stains. To remove stains: dampen stainedarea and rub with
undilutedliquid detergent.Re-wash, usingchlorinebleachif safe for
fabric.
Somefabrics willshrinkwhether washedin a washer or by hand;
others may be safelywashedbut willshrink in a dryer.Follow
Garment Manufacturers Care Instructionsexactly.If in doubt, do not
machinewash or dry.
Relaxation shrinkage can occurin knit fabrics that havebeen improp-
erlystretched and elongatedby the manufacturer. When this occurs,
garment may be pressedback into shapeafter each wash and dry
cycle.
Progressive or delayedshrinkage is causedwhen starch or sizing(in
some fabrics)isgraduallyremoved by laundering.Maybe noticedin
oldergarments that havebeen washedmany times withoutprevious
shrinkage. Treatas for RelaxationShrinkageabove.
Shrinkage caused by overheating occursin certain knit fabricsthat
have beenheat-shaped. When washing,drying or ironing
temperatures exceedthetemperatures usedto shapeset, shrinkage
may occur.T-hiscarmot becorrected, but it can be preventedby
washingin cool or warm water; drying on Low or Delicateheat.
