SCSI MESSAGES
3-1 INTRODUCTION
Chapters 3 through 6 are the Host Interface Specification for the M2488.
This chapter describes the messages for the M2488 tape drive and the medium changers. The following
information is located in this chapter:

Table 3-1 describes the SCSI messages used with the M2488. For more detailed information on the
SCSI message, refer to the paragraph listed in the PARAGRAPH column.

Indicates the execution of a command has termi-
nated and valid status was sent to the initiator.

01h EXTENDED MESSAGE Sent as the first byte of a multiple-byte message. 3-2.5 on page 3-3
02h SAVE DATA POINTER
Directs the initiator to save a copy of the present
active data pointer for the currently attached log-
ical unit.

03h RESTORE POINTERS
Restores the most recently saved pointers (for the
currently attached logical unit) to the active state.

04h DISCONNECT
Informs the initiator that the present physical
path is going to be broken.

05h INITIATOR DETECTED ERROR Informs a target an error has occurred. 3-2.8 on page 3-8
06h ABORT Sent to the target to clear the present operation. 3-2.1 on page 3-2
07h MESSAGE REJECT
Indicates the last message received was inappro-
priate or was not implemented.

08h NO OPERATION
Sent in response to a target’s request for a mes-
sage when the initiator does not currently have
any other valid message to send.

09h MESSAGE PARITY ERROR
Indicates one or more bytes in the last message,
received by the initiator, had a parity error.

Indicates to the initiator that the completion and
execution of a linked command and status was
sent.
