Driving Safely
Driving On Slippery Surfaces
When d riving on slippery surfaces such as wet trails, loose g ravel, or
ice, be alert for the possibility of skidding and sliding. Under these
conditions, follow these precautions:
1. Slow down when entering slippery areas.
2. Maintain a high level of alertness, reading the trail a nd avoiding
quick, sharp turns, which can cause skids.
3. Correct a skid by t urning the steering wheel in the direction of the
skid.
4. Drive with AWD engaged (if equipped) to assist in controlling the
vehicle.
CAUTION
Severe damage to the drive train m ay occur if the AWD is
engaged while t he wheels are spinning. Always allow the wheels
to s top spinning before engaging A WD.
WARNING
Failure to exercise care when operating on slippery s urfaces can
result in loss of tire traction and cause loss o f control, accident,
and serious injur y or death.
Never apply the brakes dur ing a skid.
Do not operate on excessively slippery surfaces.
Always reduce speed and use additional caution when operating
on slippery surfaces.
