Measure the end play of the crankshaft using a dial
gauge.
NOTE: The end play measurement is necessary for
determining the wear of the thrust bearing
and abnormal wear of the crankshaft.

Remove the mounting capscrews of the main bearing
cap.
Remove the main bearing cap and lower bearing.
NOTE:
• Mark the thrust bearings so that they can be
installed into the correct position.
• The main bearing cap mounting capscrews must
be replaced after each use.

Be careful not to hit the crankshaft against the
cylinder block and damage the sliding surface.
Remove the crankshaft.
Remove the upper main bearing.
NOTE: Mark the main bearings and thrust bearing
so that they can be installed into the correct
position.
