chlorinebleach(suchas Clorox2 brand). Referto Garment
Manufacturers’Care Labels.Restorecolorusingcolorremover(such
as M or Tintexbrands), followpackagedirections.
Iron or manganesein watermaycauseoveral~yellowingor yellow
spots.
1. Useextra detergentplusa non-precipitatingwater softenerdis-
solvedin water beforeaddingclothes.Usenon-chlorinebleach.
2. Havea specialfilteror chemicalfeederinstalledin your hometo
removeiron and manganesefrom water.

3. Run hot water for a fewminutesto cleaniron residuebuild-upin
lines;drain waterheater occasionally.
4. To removespots: spreadstainedportion overpan of boilingwater
and squeezelemonjuicethrough stain. To remove overallyeilow,
usea commerciallyavailablerust scaleremover,followingpackage
instructions.If porcelaindamagecan occur,do not usein the
washer;usea plasticcontainer.
Improper useof fabric softener.Neverpour fabric softener directlyon

clothes;a~waysdilutebeforeadding to rinsewater. Dilutesoftener
before fillingyour FabricSoftenerDispenser.(Seepage 8.) Also, do

not lift lidduringspin. Thismaycauseimproper dispensing,resulting
in stains. To removestains: dampen stainedarea and rub with
undilutedliquiddetergent.Rewash,usingchlorinebleach if safe for
fabric.
Somefabricswillshrink whetherwashedin a washer or by hand;
othersmay be safelywashedbut willshrink in a dryer. Follow
Garment Manufacturers’Care Labelsexactly.If in doubt, do not
machinewash or dry.
Relaxationshrinkagecan occurin knit fabrics that have beenimprop-
erlystretchedand elongatedby the manufacturer. When thisoccurs,
garment maybe pressedback into shapeafter each wash and dry
cycle.
Progressiveor delayedshrinkageiscausedwhen starch or sizing(in
somefabrics)is graduallyremovedby laundering. May be noticedin
oldergarmentsthat havebeenwashedmany times without previous
shrinkage.Treatas for RelaxationShrinkageabove.
Shrinkagecaused by overheatingoccursin certain knit fabricsthat
havebeen heat-shaped. Whenwashing,dryingor ironing
temperaturesexceedthe temperaturesused to shape set, shrinkage
may occur.This cannot becorrected, but it can be preventedby
washingin cold or warm water; dryingon Low or Delicateheat.
