POSSIBLE CAUSE AND REMEDY
@Insufficientdetergent.Youmay needto increaseamount of
detergentusedif loadis largerthan normal, if soilsare oilyor
heavierthan average,if waterlevelis largeor if water is Hard to
ExtremelyHard.
~ Water not hot enoughfor typeof load. Besurewater heateris setto
deliverhot water at the washerat 140°-1500F(60*Cto 65*C).Do not
washwhen other hot waterneeds—suchas dishwashingor family
baths—are heavy.
~ Poor or inferiordetergent.Changeto phosphatedetergent,if
possible.Followthesesteps:
1. Usewater conditioner,(suchas Calgonbrand)
2. Pre-treat stains
3. Usehottest waterpossible
4. Usebleachwherepossible
5. Use pre-soak aids
6. Installwatersoftener
~ ?Vasheroverloaded.Clothescannot movefreelyto loosenand
removesoil, causinggrayappearance. Followcorrectloading
proceduresfor sizeof load.
~ Improper soakingwithinsufficientdetergent.Usuallya 30-minute
soak is sufficient.However,whenusingextendedsoaks for heavily
soiledgarmentsyou mayneed to usetwicethe recommended
amount of detergent.
~ Use of soap in hard water.Switchto a phosphate detergent,or
followsixstepsdescribedabove.
@Washingtoo longmay resultin increasedsoildeposition.Use
shorter washtimesfor smallerloads.
o Detergentdissolvestoo slowly.Detergentmust bepresent in the
wash solutionat the start of agitation. Seepage 15.
~ To restoregrayedclothes,followone of theseprocedures:
1. Put clothesin washer.Fillwith HOT water.Check
Manufacturers’CareLabelsto determineif hot water is suitable
for garment.
~ Add a non-precipitatingtypeof water softenersuch as Calgon
with phosphate—use21/2timesas much as you need for normal
water softening.
~ Do not usedetergent“orsoap.
~ Allowclothesto go through completecycle.
~ Repeat,if necessary.
2. If you prefer to usethe Soak Settingseepage 8. Use the water
softener in placeof soak agent or pre-wash detergentand allow
clothesto soak for about 20 minutes.
3. UseMini-Baskettub. Seepage9. Increasedetergent.
