Make sure that the brake lever end does
not project out over the handlebar end.
This will help prevent brake lever damage
when the snowmobile is placed on its side
for service.
Test the brake at a low speed when starting
out to make sure that it is working properly. If
the brake does not provide proper braking
performance, inspect the brake for wear or
brake fluid leakage. (See the following section
for more details.)
Checking the brake pads
Check the brake pads for wear according to
the following procedure.
1. Remove the shroud and the right side
cover. (See page 44 for removal proce-
dures.)
2. Check the brake pads for wear.
If the brake pads reach the wear limit, ask
a Yamaha dealer to replace them.
3. Install the right side cover and the shroud.
Checking the parking brake pads
Check the parking brake pads for wear ac-
cording to the following procedure.
1. Remove the shroud and the right side
cover. (See page 44 for removal proce-
dures.)
2. Check the parking brake pads for wear by
measuring the thickness of the pads. If
the parking brake pads reach the wear
limit, ask a Yamaha dealer to replace
them.
3. Install the right side cover and the shroud.
To adjust the parking brake
As the parking brake pads wear, adjustment
may be necessary to ensure proper brake
performance.
1. Remove the shroud and the right side
cover. (See page 44 for removal proce-
dures.)
2. Loosen the parking brake pad locknut
and the parking brake pad adjusting bolt.
3. Loosen the parking brake cable locknut.
4. Turn the parking brake cable adjusting
bolt in or out to adjust the cable length.
