CRUMPLE ZONES
The front and rear crumple zones
dissipate and distribute incoming
collision forces so as to help reduce
the effects on the car's occupants.
PERSONAL SECURITY
An electronic immobiliser and door
locks that withstand most break-in
attempts help protect against theft.
Home Safe lighting lights up your
path from the car at the touch of the
headlamp stalk. A remotely controlled
alarm is available as an option.
ENERGY-ABSORBING INTERIOR
All the panels and the door sides are
padded with energy-absorbing materials
to help reduce the risk of injury to the
car’s occupants.
AIRBAGS
The driver and passenger* airbags
interact with the front safety belts,
pre-tensioners and force limiters to
help protect the head, face and chest
in a frontal or offset impact.
*The car can also be ordered without a
passenger airbag.
SAFETY CAGE
The sturdy safety cage surrounds all
the car’s occupants and is dimensioned
to help withstand severe crash forces.
The rear safety hoops act together with
the sturdily anchored windscreen frame
to help protect in a roll-over accident.
WHIPS
(WHIPLASH PROTECTION SYSTEM)
WHIPS helps reduce the risk of
whiplash injury by cradling the spine
and neck in a controlled way if the car
is hit from behind at low speeds. It is
built into the front seats and activated
by a sufficiently severe impact.
SAFETY BELTS WITH
PRE-TENSIONERS
All the seats have head restraints and
three-point safety belts with pre-ten-
sioners. In a crash, the safety belt is
tensioned across the body to help
provide maximum protection. The front
safety belts then slacken slightly so
that the occupants are restrained
by the airbags in a more controlled
manner.
SIPS
(SIDE-IMPACT PROTECTION SYSTEM)
SIPS distributes crash forces in a
side impact across a larger part of the
car’s body so as to help reduce the
strain on the occupants. Reinforced
with extremely strong doors and a
robust horseshoe-like structure in
the rear. The front seat side airbags
contribute to head and chest protec-
tion for the front seat occupants.
ROPS
(ROLL-OVER PROTECTION SYSTEM)
If the car rolls over, an electronic sensor
triggers the safety hoops concealed in
the rear bodywork along with the safety
belt pre-tensioners for all four seats.
The rear safety hoops act together with
the sturdily reinforced windscreen frame
to serve as a roll-over cage.
THE ADVANCED SAFETY SYSTEMS IN A VOLVO WORK TOGETHER TO HELP CREATE A SAFE
ENVIRONMENT FOR YOU AND YOUR PASSENGERS. IT IS THE INTELLIGENT INTERACTION BETWEEN
THE CAR’S VARIOUS ADVANCED SAFETY SYSTEMS, NOT THE NUMBER OF INDIVIDUAL SAFETY
COMPONENTS, THAT DETERMINES JUST HOW SAFE A CAR IS.
CHILD SAFETY
Just about everything that makes your
Volvo safe for adults also makes it safe
for children. However, children up to
the age of three travel most safely in
a rearward-facing child seat. Larger
children sit most safely if they sit on
a booster cushion and are secured
with a safety belt.
