I. Engine With Primer Bulb
Only one of the following two sections will apply to your
engine. See Table 6.
1. To avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, be sure engine is
outdoors in a well-ventilated area.
2. Be sure fuel valve is open, if provided. See Figure 28.
3. When starting a cold engine, push primer bulb firmly
with your thumb 3 times, allowing primer bulb to return
completely to original position between pushes. See
Figure 29.
NOTES
LH318EA (HM80-90), LH358EA (HM100) and OH318EA
Models DO NOT have a primer bulb.
Cooler temperatures may require pushing primer bulb firmly
with your thumb 5 times.
DO NOT use primer to restart a warm engine after a short
shutdown. Doing so will flood the engine and may result in
equipment malfunction.
When pulling starter rope, the rope
can unexpectedly jerk back toward
engine causing serious injury. To avoid this risk, carefully
follow these instructions:
4. Grasp starter cord handle. See Figure 30.
a. Pull rope out slowly until you feel drag.
b. Next, pull rope with one rapid full arm stroke.
c. Return rope slowly to original position.
NOTE
Following the instructions listed in the steps above avoids
potential damage to the recoil mechanism.
5. If engine fails to start after 3 attempts, repeat steps 2
thru 4.
6. If engine does not start after following steps 1 thru 5,
contact your Authorized Tecumseh Servicing Dealer.
DO NOT attempt to start or troubleshoot this engine in
any other way.
