MAINTENANCE
Air Filter
1. Remove the seat. Release the
air box cover clips, and
remove the air box cover.
2. Loosen the clamp and
remove the filter.
3. Remove the fabric type pre-
filter from the main filter.
Wash the pre-filter in soapy
water, then rinse and let dry.
4. Reinstall the pre-filter over
the main filter. Install a new
main filter if needed.
5. Reinstall the filter into the air
box and tighten the clamp.
Do not over-tighten the
clamp, as filter damage could occur.
6. Reinstall the air box cover and the seat.
Breather Filter/Hose
The breather filter is on the hose that runs between the engine and air
box. See illustration above.
1. Remove the left side panel. See page 87.
2. Remove the hose clamps from the filter and pull the filter out of the
hoses.
3. Inspect the filter for debris. Blow gently through the filter in the
direction of the arrow to check for clogging. Replace a damaged or
clogged filter.
4. Check the hoses for cracks, deterioration, abrasion, or leaks.
Replace as needed.
5. Reinstall the filter and hose clamps. The filter is effective with the
arrow pointing in either direction.
NOTICE: Operation of your vehicle without a breather filter can cause engine
damage. Always reinstall the breather filter after removing it for
service.
