Fuel Filter Replacement
NOTE: Using a fuel filter that does not meet the
manufacturer’s filtration and water separating require-
ments can severely impact fuel system life and reliability.
CAUTION!
•
Diesel fuel will damage blacktop paving surfaces.
Drain the filter into an appropriate container.
•
Do not prefill the fuel filter when installing a new
fuel filter. There is a possibility debris could be
introduced into the fuel filter during this action. It
is best to install the filter dry and allow the in-tank
lift pump to prime the fuel system.
1. Remove the left front tire/wheel.
2. Remove the left front wheel splash shield.
3. Clean all debris from around the filter canister and
canister head.
4. Disconnect the WIF (Water In Fuel) sensor electrical
connector.
5. Open the drain valve two complete revolutions. Drain
approximately one cup of fuel into a waste canister.
Dispose of the fuel according to environmental regula-
tions.
6. Remove the drain hose from the drain valve.
7. Use a oil filter type wrench to loosen filter. Continue
removing filter by hand.
8. After fuel filter removal, check and clean the second-
ary filter screen. Press the button on the quick-connect
fitting. Disconnect fitting from fitting. Unscrew the fitting
from the canister head to expose screen.
Reverse the steps above to reinstall the filter.
