Prepare Parts for Assembly
Check brake shoes for rust, expanded rivet holes,
broken welds and correct alignment. Replace
damaged shoes.
d. Check anchors, anchor pins and shoe
bushings for wear or damage. Replace as
necessary.
e. Replace all shoe return springs at time of
brake overhaul.
f. Check the brake drums for cracks, severe
heat checking, heat spotting, scoring, pitting
and distortion. Replace damaged brake
drums.
g. Inspect wheel cylinders for leaks and smooth
action. (See page 17).

check the pawl breakaway torque with a
torque wrench to verify that the torque is
between 120-240 lb. in. (13-27 N•m).
