Incompleteremovalof body soildueto constant use of insufficient
detergent.Checkhem of T-shirt or pillowcase. If they are whiteand
centerisyellow,it containsbodyoil. Restorewhitenessfollowing

Chlorinebleachmay yellowsomefabricswith resin finishes.Use
oxygenbleach(suchas Chlorox2 brand). Refer to Garment
Manufacturers’Care Instructions.Restorecolor usingcolorremover
(suchas Rit or Tintexbrands), followpackagedirections.
Iron or manganesein water maycauseoverallyellowingor yellow
spots.

Useextra detergentplusa non-precipitatingwater softenerdis-
solvedin water beforeaddingclothes.Do not usea chlorinebleach.
Have a specialfitter or chemicalfeederinstalledin your home to
removeiron and manganesefrom water.
Run hot water for a fewminutesto cleaniron residuebui~d-upin
lines;drain water heater occasionally.
To removesDots:spread stainedportion over pan of boilingwater
and squeeze~emon~uicethrough-stain.To refiove overallfeUmv,
usea commerciallyavailablerust scaleremover,followingpackage
instructions.If porcelaindamagecan occur,do not usein the
washer;use a plasticcontainer.
Improper use of fabricsoftener.Neverpour fabric softener directlyon
clothes;alwaysdilutebefore addingto rinsewater. (Seepage 13for
use of fabric softener.)To removestains: dampen stained area and
rub with undilutedliquiddetergent.Re-wash,usingchlorinebleach if
safe for fabric.
Somefabrics willshrink whetherwashedin a washeror by hand;
others may be safelywashedbut willshrink in a dryer. Follow
Garment Manufacturers CareInstructionsexactly.If in doubt, do not
machinewashor dry.
Relaxation shrinkagecan occurin knit fabrics that havebeen improp-
erly stretchedand elongatedby the manufacturer. When this occurs,
garment may be pressedback into shape after each wash and dry
cycle.
Progressiveor delayedshrinkageiscaused when starch or sizing(in
somefabrics)is graduallyremovedby laundering. Maybe noticed in
oldergarmentsthat havebeenwashedmany times without previous
shrinkage.Treatas for RelaxationShrinkageabove.
Shrinkagecausedby overheatingoccursin certain knit fabrics that
havebeen heat-shaped. When washing,dryingor ironing
temperatures exceedthe temperaturesused to shape set, shrinkage
may occur. Thiscannot be corrected, but it can be preventedby
washingin cool or warm water; dryingon Low or Delicateheat.
