well as important safety warnings designed to help
reduce the risk of injury to you and your occupants.

begin learning about your new vehicle and refer to the
appropriate sections when questions arise.

AUTO-DIMMING
REARVIEW MIRROR
(If equipped) The
Auto-Dimming
Rearview Mirror is
equipped with a
feature that will
reduce glare in the
rearview mirror
when bright lights
are detected. It
automatically
returns
to normal /
clear
when the vehicle is
placed in R (Reverse).
REMOTE ENTRY
SYSTEM (If equipped)
Your vehicle may be
equipped with a
remote entry system
which allows you to
lock or unlock the
vehicle’s doors
without a key. Press
the unlock button
once to unlock the
driver’s door, twice
to unlock all doors.
Pressing the lock
button once will lock
all doors and the
park/turn lamps will
flash once. Pressing
the button a second
time will chirp the
horn to confirm that
all doors are closed
and locked. It also
allows you to
arm your personal
alarm. For more

KEYLESS ENTRY
KEYPAD
You can use
the Keyless Entry
Keypad to lock or
unlock the doors
without a key. The
keypad can be operat-
ed with the factory set
five-digit entry code
or you can create your
own.
This code is on
the owner’s wallet
card in the glove box.
Enter this code and
within five seconds
press the
12 on the keypad.
Enter your personal
five-digit code. The
doors will again lock
then unlock, to confirm
that your personal
keycode
has been
programmed
to
the module.
TWO STEPUNLOCKING
To unlock the driver’s
door, turn the key in
the door cylinder
once toward the front
of the vehicle.
Turn
the key a second
time
to unlock all passenger
doors, liftgate and
liftgate glass.
To lock all doors,
liftgate and liftgate
glass, turn the key
toward the back of
the vehicle once.
SECURILOCK™
PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT
SYSTEM
This system
is designed to help
prevent the engine
from being started
unless a coded key
programmed to your
vehicle is used. Your
SecuriLock
system is
armed immediately
after switching the
ignition to the LOCK
position. The theft
indicator will flash
every two seconds
when the vehicle is
armed. Switching the
ignition to the RUN
position with a coded
key disarms the
system. Your vehicle
comes with two coded
keys. Additional coded
keys can be purchased
from your authorized
dealer. For more

Owner’s Guide.
HEATED FRONT SEATS
(If equipped) To
activate heated
seats, push the
control located on
the side of the seat.
Push it again to
deactivate, or the
system will turn off
automatically after
10 minutes, or when
the ignition is turned
to the LOCK position.
GEARSHIFT /
OVERDRIVE CONTROL
Overdrive is the
normal drive
position for the best
fuel economy. Only
turn Overdrive OFF
when driving with a
heavy load, towing a
trailer up or down
steep hills, or when
additional engine
braking is needed.
To deactivate, press
the switch located
on the side of the
gearshift lever.
ADDITIONAL_FEATURES
FUSES If your
electrical components
aren’t working
properly, a fuse may
have blown. For more

consult your
Owner’s Guide.
FUEL PUMP SHUT-OFF
SWITCH
This device
stops the electric fuel
pump from sending
fuel to the engine
when your vehicle has
had a substantial jolt.
After an accident, if
you find that the
engine cranks, but
does not start, this
switch may have been
activated. The fuel
pump shut-off switch
is in the front
passenger’s footwell,
behind a flip-up cover,
by the kick panel
access cover.
LOCATION OF SPARE
TIRE AND TOOLS
The jack and tools are
either under the
carpeted floorboard or
in the right rear of the
cargo area behind an
access panel. The
spare tire is under the
rear
of the vehicle. For

TIRE PRESSURE
Safe oper
ation of
your
Mariner requires
your
tires to be
properly inflated. The
recommended
inflation pr
essur
e
is found on the
tire label or the
Safety Compliance
Certification Label on
the driver’s door or
B-Pillar. At least once
a month and before
long trips, inspect
each tire and check
the air pressure with a
tire gauge. Don’t
forget the spare. Air
pressure should be
checked when the
tires are cold.
WARNING:
Improperly inflated
tires can affect
vehicle handling and
can fail suddenly,
resulting in a possible
loss of vehicle control.
CHANGING THE TIRES
If you get a flat tire
while driving, do not
apply the brake heavi-
ly. Instead, gradually
decrease your speed.
Hold the steering
wheel firmly and
slowly move to a safe
place onto the side of
the road. Your vehicle
is equipped with a
temporary spare tire,
which is smaller than
a regular tire, and is
designed for
emergency use only.
ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE
In addition to your
New Vehicle Limited
Warranty, Ford Motor
Company provides new
vehicle owners with a
complimentary
roadside assistance
program. This service
is available 24 hours a
day, seven days a
week for three years
or 36,000 miles. It
covers changing a
flat
tire, jump starts,
lim
ited fuel delivery,
lock-
out assistance,
and towing your
vehicle. Call
800-241-3673 for
Roadside Assistance.
FUELTANK CAPACITY
Vehicles equipped
with 2.3L four-cylinder
engines and 3.0L
six-cylinder engines
have 16.5 gallon
(62.5L) fuel tanks.
REAR WINDOW
BUFFETING
When one
or both of your rear
windo
ws are open,
the vehicle may
demonstrate a wind
throb or buffeting
noise. This is common
among a wide range
of vehicles and can be
eliminated by simply
lowering a front
window two to
three inches.

select AM, FM1
or FM2 frequency
bands.
02. CD Press to enter
CD mode. If a CD is
already loaded into
the system, the CD
play will begin
where it last ended.

F/VOLUME
Press to turn ON or
OFF. Turn to increase
or decrease volume.

radio comes Satellite
ready.The kit to
enable the Satellite
reception is available
through your
Mercury dealer.

brief sampling of
radio stations or
CD/MP3 tracks.

Press to go up or
down the radio
frequency or to
select a desired disc.

access the next/

SETTING MEMORY
PRESETS
To set a
station: Select
frequency band AM,
FM1 or FM2. Tune to
a station, then press
and hold one of the
six numbered preset
buttons until the
sound returns.
SPEED SENSITIVE
VOLUME
This audio
system may have
speed sensitive
volume control.

SETTING THE CLOCK
Press MENU until
SELECTHOUR or
SELECTMINS is
displayed. Use SEL
and the up / down
arrows to adjust the
hours / minutes.
ESSENTIAL_INFORMATION
CLIMATE_CONTROL
01. FAN SPEED
CONTROL
Rotate the
knob to adjust the
volume of air
circulated in
the vehicle.
02. MAX A/C Uses
recirculated air to
cool the vehicle.
MAX A/C is louder
than A/C,
but is more
economical
and cools
the
interior faster.
Airflow
will be directed
from the instrument
panel vents. This
mode can also be
used to prevent
undesirable odors
from entering
the vehicle.
03. A/C Uses outside
air to cool the vehicle.
Although quieter
than MAX A/C, A/C
is not as economical
and will take longer
to cool the vehicle.
Airflow will be
directed from
the instrument
panel vents.
04. PANEL
Distributes outside
air through the
instrument panel
vents.
05. PANELAND
FLOOR
Distributes
outside air through
the instrument
panel vents and
floor vents.
06. OFF Outside air is
shut off and the fan
will not operate. This
mode can also be
used to prevent
undesirable odors
from entering the
vehicle, but only
for a short period
of time.
07. FLOOR Allows for
maximum heating
by distributing
outside air through
the floor vents.
08. FLOOR AND
DEFROST
Distributes
outside air through
the windshield
defroster vents and
the floor vents.
09. DEFROST
Distributes outside
air through the
wind
shield defroster
vents
. It can be used
to clear ice or fog
from the windshield.
10. TEMPERATURE
CONTROL
Rotate
the knob to adjust
the temperature of
the airflow inside
the vehicle.
