INSPECTION / CORRECTION
For any subject models identified within the serial number ranges above:
1) Remove upper and lower shroud bolts (A, Figure 1) using a 10 mm socket.
2) Remove choke shaft (B) by applying uniform upward pull force. The upper shroud can then be gently lifted
upward and set to the side, leaving the primer hose and ignition wires attached.
3) Pull off throttle control knob (C) with uniform outward force.
4) Then, with the fuel shut-off valve in the off position, carefully remove the lower shroud and set aside. The
cover over the throttle control is not removed but needs to be pulled outward to assist in the removal of the
lower shroud.
5) Using a ¼ inch drive 10 mm socket, loosen the bowl nut (arrow, Figure 2) approximately 1 turn.
6) Attempt to continue loosening the bowl nut by hand approximately 2 more turns. The nut should turn
freely. Do not completely remove the bowl nut.
a. If you CANNOT loosen the bowl nut freely by hand, STOP. This carburetor must be replaced.
Order and install replacement carburetor P/N 591154. Proceed to step 7.
b. If you CAN loosen the bowl nut freely by hand, this carburetor is OK and you may re-tighten the
bowl nut to 75 lb-ins. Proceed to step 7.
7) Using a permanent black marker, place a black mark after the engine identification stamping on the base of
the engine (starter motor side).
8) In addition, for any products in boxes, use a permanent black marker to place a similar black mark
somewhere near each of the product ID/SKU labels. Be sure not to cover any bar codes that may be
present.
COMPLETING A WARRANTY CLAIM:
1) Complete a warranty claim providing accurate engine and equipment model and serial numbers in the
respective fields. This information is needed to account for product repaired in the field.
2) Enter 125 in the IPL Ref Number field and AW in Condition Code field.
3) Tag and retain all replaced carburetors with a copy of the warranty claim(s). Briggs & Stratton may request
the return of various carburetors and will provide return information when requested.
4) Removal and replacement of the carburetor and completion of the warranty claim can typically be
accomplished in 30 minutes or less. Transportation charges will be accepted on affected sold units that
require inspection/correction.
