The glue melted on my rearview mirror. How do I ge...

The glue melted on my rearview mirror. How do I get the small steel rectangle with rounded corners on one end out to glue it back onto the windshield. The mirror is electronic with auto dimmer & compass. I've poked an awl behind it & released the side clips, but it's not your normal assembly.
