Why does the gas needle move when I press down the brakes our turn on the lights in my 94 caprice classic

4 It might be one of a handful of possibilities.You may have a broken ground wire under the dash, particularly near the dashboard regulator on the back of the cluster, That regulator might be the fault, or it might be corrosion somewhere on the harness between the fuseblock and gas tank, or again a broken ground wire going to the rear of the car. On GM cars these will be black wires.

0 thanks. This may be the case because I just bought the car from an auction and it was full of speaker wire. Not only that but when I start the car up, it runs fine while idle but cuts off as soon as I turn on the lights or try to change gears. Do you think this is still a case of bad wires?
