OPERATION
Driving Through Water
Your POLARIS BRUTUS can operate through water up to a maximum recommended depth
equal to the floorboards.
NOTICE: Driving through water deeper than the floorboards will cause engine damage and will also
void the engine warranty.
NOTICE: Immersion can result in major damage if the vehicle isn't serviced correctly and promptly.
After immersion, always take the vehicle to a your dealer for service. Do not start the engine!
If it's impossible to bring the vehicle to your dealer before starting the engine, perform the
service outlined on page 88, and take the vehicle to your dealer at the first opportunity.
Tip: For model HD and HD
PTO; It is not recommended to drive through water with an attachment
installed.
Follow these procedures when operating through
water:
1. Determine water depths and current before
entering water.
2. Choose a crossing where both banks have
gradual inclines.
3. Proceed slowly, avoiding rocks and obstacles.
4. Avoid operating through deep or fast-flowing
water.
WARNING! The large tires on your BRUTUS may cause
the vehicle to float in deep or fast-flowing water, which
could result in loss of control and lead to serious injury or
death. Never cross deep or fast-flowing water with your
BRUTUS.
5. After leaving water, always dry the brakes by
applying light pressure to the pedal repeatedly until braking action is normal.
NOTICE: After operating the vehicle in water, it's critical that you perform the services outlined in the
Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on page 73. Give special attention to engine oil,
transmission oil, all gearcase fluids and all grease fittings.
Parking the Vehicle
1. Press the brake pedal until the utility vehicle comes to a complete stop. Stop the vehicle
on a level surface.
2. When parking inside a garage or other structure, be sure that the structure is well
ventilated and that the vehicle is not close to any source of flame or sparks, including
any appliance with pilot lights.
3. For models HD and HD
PTO only: Lower the attachment arm and put the attachment flat
on the ground.
4. Move the gear selector lever to Park.
5. For models HD and HD
PTO only: Move the engine speed control lever to low idle.
Disengage the PTO and make sure all rotating components are completely stopped.
6. Turn the engine off and remove the key to prevent unauthorized use.
